Nomad Business: 6 Steps to Success

Business as a Digital Nomad

Business as we know it has changed dramatically over the past few decades with the introduction of the internet and more people have turned to a nomad business. Academics have used the internet since the 1980s, yet now it’s a readily accessible phenomenon that has changed the world. Currently, almost 3 billion people log on every single day and it is expected that that number will almost double in the next 10 years or so!

For entrepreneurs looking to start or grow a successful business, the internet offers an almost unlimited customer base. A digital nomad is an entrepreneur who makes their living online and being a digital nomad has never been easier thanks to the level of connectivity we have obtained through the internet. We don’t necessarily have a physical location and we don’t need one to operate. All we need is a laptop and connection to the internet. Of course, there are tools and software we use, but these are tend to be location independent.

A digital nomad business not restricted to a certain work base, and therefore they are free to run their business from wherever they choose. There is often a passive income element to a digital nomad business, but this is not essential. If you want to run a successful business that offers services, such as coaching or consulting, you can work over Skype or other web-based teleconferencing software.

Nomad Business, here are my top tips for running a successful one:

Pick a profitable target audience

The most important thing is that whatever ‘niche’ or business idea you choose is that your target audience can afford to pay you! Don’t fall into the trap many entrepreneurs do which is to pick a group that interests you personally, but those people can’t afford their products and services. You are building a successful business, not a hobby.

Build a simple website

This is the foundation of your location independent, digital nomad business. However, you can’t just build it and leave it. A website should be a constant work in progress and many entrepreneurs don’t appreciate this. However, it doesn’t need to be fancy – make it clear, concise and a pleasure to read and you’ll be off to a great start. To enhance your client experience you also will need to have a robust and active social media presence that helps you connect with your audience on a deeper level to start to build solid relationships.

Focus on what works for your digital nomad business

Figure out what works for you but don’t plagiarise. Yes, you should keep learning and allow yourself to take inspiration from others, but direct copying is a no-go. You are you, what works for you may not work for someone else. And vice versa. Be brave – test and learn.

Grow your audience and get exposure

A strong social media presence is essential, but not the only thing you can do.

  • Be a guest on podcasts -There are podcasts that get more downloads than radio stations have listeners.
  • Guest post on other blogs.
  • Write for large authority sites – Writing for large websites such as the Huffington Post and Entrepreneur.

Offer value and charge what you’re worth

When you provide value through your free content, people will want to dig deeper. They will turn to you, and your paid content, as an authority. A digital nomad values their time above everything else, so your time is the most expensive service you offer – remember this and charge accordingly.

Make some progress, review it

Focus on what’s working and commit to learn what will help your business grow. Analyse how you can make the process smoother and more efficient. Spend some time growing the profitable part of your successful business and scale the progress. At all costs, avoid information overload.

Starting a digital nomad business has been revolutionary for me and my family. We enjoy real freedom. There are challenges, but they are worth it. Do your homework, apply these six steps and if you want to know more contact me here.
